You’k’lay’lay on my studio floor, floor

I always have a lot of fun with the work I do for TheScope – this job was nothing but fun. I got to try out a few new techniques in the studio and meet damn near every ukelele player that submitted an RPM album in area code 709 this year.

The task was to try to get the group together – in short order – and to capture the energy that these musicians bring to the table. So the concept ended up being simple, lets make it all about them, not some cool location, it should be about the musicians themselves.

What better way to capture the Uke energy than to get my subjects, one at a time to just… you know… lay-on-my-studio-floor. So on a couple of frigid March afternoons, I turned on a heating dish, pointed it at the floor. The direction to my new Ukey friends was to “pretend you are laying on the grass in a park on a hot summers day.” Everyone I shot for this job was amazing to work with, Ukelele players are the nicest crowd.

To the right is the resulting composite of all of the individual shots. We made this month’s cover! The Issue hit stands last week, so run to your local corner store, or coffee shop and pick up a copy, the print quality came out exceptionally well, the colours are still extremely vibrant, even on newsprint!
